GKN Aerospace is proud to be part of the Ventilator Challenge UK consortium that has been awarded the Special Award for Design Engineering at this year's British Engineering Excellence Awards https://bit.ly/3u2VPpI. The Consortium team was astounding: depth of talent, passion and indefatigability.
Overview

We believe in building a high performance business and are committed to delivering safe, high quality products and services.
We also believe in creating a culture of continuous improvement across GKN Aerospace, applying the Lean Enterprise model to everything that we do. While we want to win in business, we must do so fairly, and the GKN Aerospace Code requires honest and proper conduct from all GKN Aerospace employees. We also expect the same from our suppliers and other business partners.

Continuous Improvement

At GKN Aerospace we recognise that what we do well today, we can do even better tomorrow.
We are committed to a culture of zero defects and continuous improvement and GKN Aerospace’s Lean Enterprise model provides a framework for CI. Employees from office, factory floor and executive levels are trained to identify value for customers and shareholders; to eliminate waste; to remove barriers; and to develop skills in coaching and problem solving.
All our sites have a continuous improvement plan, aligned to business objectives, which engages employees to consistently focus on positive development.
Quality and Safety

We are committed to supplying safe and high quality products and services, judging our performance from the point of view of our customers.
In recognition of the importance of protecting the wellbeing of the ultimate end-users of their products, we follow strict product design and development procedures to ensure precise delivery to customer specification, and to seek opportunities to enhance quality and safety performance.
We take a preventative approach to product responsibility. We ensure that effective controls and processes are in place around social factors such as safety and quality assurance, including crisis management procedures and processes.
We are proud that these high standards of product quality are recognised by our customers too. GKN Aerospace has received more than 15 separate external recognition awards in the past three years, and our Hoogeveen and Papendrecht sites in the Netherlands have received the Boeing Silver Performance Award for three years in a row. We have also received customer awards from Lockheed Martin, Bombardier and Spirit AeroStructures.
Recent Awards

The Royal Aeronautical Society is proud to announce the 2020 winners of the global aerospace community’s most prestigious and long-standing awards honouring achievement and innovation.
The virtual celebration, held 23-28 November, saw leaders in aviation, aerospace and space recognised for their significant contributions from space innovation to supporting humanitarian aid and addressing social barriers through flight.
Early-career professionals were also recognised for both their work on creating a more diverse and inclusive environment and for their wider achievements. The Young Persons’ Achievement Award went to Nick Goss, Project Engineer at GKN Aerospace who played an integral role in developing the Women in Aerospace and Aviation Charter while on secondment to the Aerospace Growth Partnership.

GKN Aerospace today announce that it has received a 2019 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance.
The GKN Aerospace sites of Hoogeveen and Papendrecht in The Netherlands maintained a Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period supporting the Apache and Chinook programs, from October 2018 to September 2019. This marks the third consecutive year GKN Aerospace has achieved this level of performance for the Apache program and the second year for the Chinook program.
Boeing recognized suppliers who achieved either a Gold or Silver level Boeing Performance Excellence Award. GKN Aerospace received the Silver level of recognition for consistent performance in meeting customer expectations to remain competitive in the global economy. Additionally, GKN Aerospace will be eligible and nominated for Boeing’s Supplier of the Year award.
Allen Vyce, Vice President – Defense Business, GKN Aerospace said: “GKN Aerospace is proud to accept this award for consistent performance by our sites. I would like to thank all of our dedicated employees for delivering such high quality products to Boeing. We value our strategic partnership with Boeing to support multiple military platforms in use around the world, and this recognition helps to show we are heading in the right direction in laying the groundwork for continued growth.”

Product Life Cycle Management

We assess the impact of our products on the environment in terms of material usage, waste, energy usage and CO2 emissions throughout each product life cycle.
By incorporating circular economy principles in our design and manufacturing processes, we are reducing our environmental impact and deliver products to end markets with increased durability and longevity and reduced waste.
By way of example, our technologies ensure that only 20% of procured metal billets are removed in the production process, whereas the norm is up to 80%, therefore significantly reducing the ‘buy to fly’ ratio.
Responsible Sourcing

We are committed to ensuring that we source raw materials and manufacture products in a responsible, ethical, and sustainable manner. This applies to our global supply chains and is important in mitigating the risk of supply chain shocks.
We closely with suppliers to ensure they respect human rights and promote good working conditions across their supply bases. In practice, this means that suppliers are expected to treat their workers equally and with respect and dignity, for all workers to be of an appropriate age in compliance with the local legal minimum age for work, for all workers to be paid a fair wage that meets or exceeds the legal minimum standard or prevailing industry standard, to eliminate excessive working hours for all workers in compliance with local laws, and for all workers’ health and safety rights to be protected at work.
GKN Aerospace makes available a supplier code of conduct that applies globally to all our suppliers and is based on the ethos of ‘doing the right thing’.
